Another school year done! We’ll start back up the first week in September. It is a long holiday, but I am already making my lists and planning for the next two months. Dries and I will go to the boat most weeks. I have the Reading Rocket French lessons to work on and I would like to be ahead with my Ranger lesson preparation. Weatherwise, it is the nicest time of the year. Therefore, a lot more comfortable when you have to get things done.
We also have a prayer request:
As you well remember, we handed the management and daily running of the school over to Euphrasie about five years ago. Euphrasie is very capable and she loves the children. Dries and I give our input, but Dries is the one who continues to improve the conditions at school and make it look good which proved to be a huge task. I run the Royal Rangers and the improvement of the French teaching at school, is one of my main goals at the moment. The team of teachers at school, is a solid one. Here comes the BUT you have probably been waiting for. Vola, who teaches Grade 3, has been a teacher at the school for many years. When I was still involved at school in a full time capacity, she conformed even though she has never been a particularly good teacher. Well, she has gone back to being the typical Malagasy teacher; lazy, unreliable and a totally useless educator. It is the spiritual aspect which is more concerning. She has never shown any spiritual growth and it reflects in the classroom. Two years ago, I advised Euphrasie to start thinking about letting her go as she is the weak link at school with an attitude to match. We simply cannot continue to invest in the school when the well-being and needs of the children are not the priority. Euphrasie needs to make the decision to let Vola go by the end of this month or we cannot continue. You might think that to be very harsh, but we think that the time has come for people to take responsibility and make heavenly minded decisions. Please pray for this situation and that God will be glorified above all.
Dries and I spent the week painting the main gate of the school. Maybe I have to bring you up to speed with this whole ‘school gate’ episode. When Dries started constructing gates for the school yard, I did not think too much about it. A couple of planks stuck together was enough for me, but I should have known that would not be the case. Dries wanted a crayon themed gate with bamboo finishing. After weeks of working on it between other projects, we are now nearing the finish line. Dries and Norbert will fit them this week. I am sure it will be the talk of the village.
May you have a blessed week.
