Madagaskar: THE WEEK – 18/09/2022

“You will not believe what happened!”

That is a standing joke between Dries and me, after which I would reply, “Of course I’ll believe it.” After so many years in Madagascar, nothing surprises me. This time though, it was Euphrasie saying it and I thought that this one might surprise me. Apparently Ledesy, one of the teachers at Lovako school in Ampamata brought his brother to come and live there with him after the holiday. So it turns out that Ledesy often goes fishing and then his brother covers for him at school. Well, this is of course unacceptable and I have to address the matter when we see him next week.

In the meanwhile, at JoshGen school, there is no thought of fishing, because we are so busy.

The little house for the water tank is just about ready, but the same cannot be said for Jirama to connect us to the municipal system.

Drie and Co. have started on the structures to support the wall at the back after which the area can be filled with rubble and earth and then the work on that retaining wall can commence. Back breaking work!

The Grade 5’s look very happy in their temporary ‘chicken coop’ classroom. It looks rather quaint and the children are very serious about keeping it neat and clean.

We celebrated Larisdiana’s birthday at home on Saturday. Baby Mitsiky is just adorable and of course the centre of attention. I felt really at home as Euphrasie cooked a pot of crabs and we were all covered in crab juice at the end, but well worth it.

Another week of building ahead. We shall also start with Royal Rangers on Wednesday and Saturday. Maybe I should do some concrete mixing and building tomorrow and let Dries go fishing.

Have a great week!
