“God has not forgotten you, He loves you”

It was Anne’s turn this week to start her series on the characteristics of a Royal Ranger leader. Sometimes we need to return to the basics and reflect on our relationship with the Lord. It was therefore very fitting that Anne’s teaching started there; reading and studying the Bible, praying and cultivating a thankful heart, so that we are able to share this with the children. As I was on my way to school in a tuctuc that morning, feeling somewhat overwhelmed by the day ahead, a tuctuc passed by with a sticker that read: ‘God has not forgotten you, He loves you.’
One might take it for such an insignificant thing, but I shared it with the Ranger leaders as an example of how God speaks to us in unexpected ways, which leads us to be thankful and encourages us to spend more time in the Word and in prayer. Anne did very well, considering that both girls have never had to teach in English, let alone navigate translation. This season is undoubtedly a time of tremendous spiritual growth for both of them, and I’m excited to see how God continues to work in their lives.

My patience was tested the very next day when the landlord turned up. I simply don’t understand the mindset. The original building was practically a ruin, and with limited finances, we’ve been doing our best to establish something while also trying to make it look somewhat appealing. The new railing and the gate was put together from old pieces of burglar-proofing which PM gave us and after some paint, it looked really nice. Well, the landlord reckoned that he wanted a brick wall, because it would last longer. Euphrasie handled it well by calmly pointing out that a wall would take away all the light and just doesn’t look good. As for his claim that the railing wasn’t strong enough, I challenged him to try removing it himself. He didn’t seem up for the challenge and quickly dropped the subject. Nothing is ever good enough!
This cyclone season has been particularly intense. We’re quickly moving down the alphabet; moderate storm Ivone has just passed over us, and Jude is already forming far out in the Indian Ocean. Over the past two days, we’ve had plenty of rain but no significant wind. However, as the system moves into the Mozambique Channel, it is expected to gain strength and develop into a cyclone.
Dries arrived in Cape Town on Saturday. Please pray for him as he will have a busy time ahead of him. Meanwhile, we’ve come to the realisation that buying a vehicle won’t be possible. I think we’ve completely lost touch with car prices. The more affordable options are either far too old or outright scams. As the saying goes, if a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Have a blessed week.
