Sendingnuus Madagaskar The Week 8 Februarie 2026

This year’s cyclone season proves to be one of the worst for Madagascar. Cyclone Gezani struck the port city of Tamatave on Tuesday night and it was reported that 75% of the second biggest city in Madagascar was either destroyed or damaged. The final death toll is not known yet, but so far we know that 40 people lost their lives. This particular cyclone started far away in the Indian Ocean, moved across Madagascar and gained strength in the Mozambican channel where it caused a lot of damage on the Mozambican coast. It is now turning back on itself and heading for the south of Madagascar. Please pray that Gezani will move down south before it makes landfall again.

We live in the north of Madagascar and did not feel any of this cyclone’s impact, just more rain which is normal for this time of the year. The cyclone season usually lasts until April, so Dries said that he will try to tie down the school’s roof some more for added protection.
