Sendingnuus – Madagaskar” The week 4 January 2026

There was a theme running through the various New Year’s messages which we had received. Philippians 3:13-14, where the Apostle Paul writes, “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Dries and I agreed that we need to ‘take the new year by the horns’ so to speak and focus on what God wants to do this year. In other words, by God’s grace and guidance we are ready to take on this year’s challenges.

I had my first proper rainy season day at school. A quad can get you most places, most of the time, but without comfort or elegance. There was so much mud at school last week and it was still raining by the time I left to go home. I had an audience lined up on the side of the road, probably waiting for me to get stuck. Unnerving, but I made it with ‘thumbs up’ from the spectators. On the main road, with my rain cape billowing in the wind, no shoes and feet covered in mud, I must have looked like some comic action figure. With the rainy season, comes the shortages. Everything is then measured against the price of one tomato, that is if you can find a half decent one. The market then also becomes a bigger challenge as it is difficult to navigate the muck and the rubbish. I find that I can manage without tomatoes quite nicely.

We started with the book of Romans with the Expedition and Adventure Rangers on Saturday. It is quite a weighty and substantial book to start off the year, but a very important one. Dries will teach this series and I’ll do a ‘How to study the Bible’ merit. We started off with a Bible Quizz and the Rangers gave it their all to see how many stickers they could earn.

Dries developed an abcess on his back which really gave him a lot of discomfort last week. It has still not completely healed and I think he is tired of hearing me telling him to take it easy. Please pray for healing and that he would be able to go to the boat this week.

May God bless you this year. Thank you for your love and faithful support.
