Sendingnuus Madagaskar: Die Week 29 September 2024

Euphrasie and I were off  to Russian Bay after an early start on Thursday morning. We were suppose to make the trip on Tuesday, but the wind was strong throughout the night and the sea was subsequently too rough the next day.

When we arrived at school, it almost felt as if no one was there. It was so quiet.  As we walked into the classroom, everybody was hard at work and everything seemed organised and in its place.  We have to think about closing up the veranda, because the children now fill the whole space.  Yet, as Euphrasie had pointed out, it still functioned perfectly and did not resemble the state of schools on our island where there usually are more than a hundred students packed into a classroom. We do need another teacher though.  Ledesy’s brother was ready to come and teach, but had to go back to his hometown as his wife had fallen ill.  Please pray for him to be able to come back and that we would have the means to pay him a salary.

So Euphrasie and I were satisfied with the team at Lovako School.  Our biggest challenge is the parents that take the children out of school when it is time to plant or harvest rice and the number of pupils always dwindle towards the end of the school year.  Unfortunately, this means that they often don’t complete the required amount of work.

Florette, Rosemary, Masilaza, Soa and Christian

This is a very special picture.  All these children were students at Lovako School in Russian Bay. They passed the national Grade 5 exam and are now in middle school on Nosy Be.  Rosemary is Masilaza’s sister.  Antonin our Grade 5 teacher has also opened their home to Rosemary this year as Masilaza has lived with them for the last two years.  She is in Grade 8 this year. They also attend Rangers and Euphrasie and I had a good laugh when Christian’s mother came to speak to us when we were in Ampamata on Thursday. She was adamant that her son has to attent Ranger meetings on Saturday afternoons.

I told Christian that I don’t want him to roam the streets and get into trouble.”

May you have a blessed week.
