Makhathini
Ds Louwrens en Jeanne het einde November die tuig na 18 jaar in Makhathini neergelê en by Segdefield afgetree. Dit gaan goed met hulle en werk hulle hard om wortel te skiet in hul nuwe omgewing. Lucky Kunene, wat al geruime tyd deel van die Makhathini span is, het vir ds Louwrens opgevolg.
Lucky Kunene
Lucky is 45 (verjaar in September), getroud met Phumzile vir 17 jaar en hulle is geseën met twee kinders – dogter Sqinisekiso (14) en ‘n seun Qhawe (8). Hy bekryf sy pad soos volg:
“ I was born and bred here in Makhathini and has been a member since my youth, even served in various leadership capacity at some point.
I then went to Durban, where I worked for the Christian organization called the Leprosy Mission for seventeen years, as a field worker and then a provincial coordinator. I have always known that God was calling me to ministry, but I always tried to ignore that urge by being busy serving in the church, thinking it would help ease my conscience.
Funny enough I was studying theology through Unisa all along. Upon completing my B.Th. degree in 2019, the Makhathini congregation called me to serve as a ministry student in the congregation, but I declined twice but when they came back for the third time, I realised that indeed God was calling me to Makhathini and accepted the call.
The ministry in Makhathini has undergone a lot of changes in recent years, changing from the way it was since its founding. Thus, the main task at the moment is to reinforce the implementation of those changes since such changes take time at times. Design and implement continuous leadership development programmes since the congregation now has five fulltime lay pastoral team. Also implementing strategies to strengthen weak wards of our congregation by ensuring capable leadership presence in all of them. Lastly, also work on nurturing the partnership fellowship through ongoing active engagement. As for the rest, I remain open to the leading of the Lord.”
Ons vertrou dat Hemel Vader hom en sy span sal gebruik om Sy Wil in Makhathini te laat geskied en wens hom en sy gesin ‘n geseënd tyd toe.
