Madagaskar Sendingnuus: Update

We are thankful that the Royal Ranger Expedition and Adventure camp was such a blessing and that the young people could end their school year in such a way. We pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to work in their hearts to remind them and challenge them to live for Christ with dedication and increasing devotion. Exam results for the national exams were very good and now these children will go to secondary school in September, which is of course a big step and we commit them to the Lord and pray that He will continue to guide them and that they will flourish. They are used to being nurtured in a small group and now they will for the most part be in classrooms with not less than 60 to 80 other pupils. Most of all, they will not be in schools where the Bible is taught and Jesus is the model for how we should live.

If you thought that we were having a holiday on a tropical island as it is school holidays, let me give you the reality. The ‘tropical island’ part is correct, but the ‘holiday’, not at all.

This is the time of year when there is a lot of work at school and this year more so than ever. The new pre-school needs to be ready in less than a month and Dries is working on a separation wall in one of the classrooms and a resource centre in the other. PM gave us a whole load of concrete slabs which he won’t be using anymore and that will be used to build a walk way before the next rainy season. At the same time Norbert and a helper are slowly, but surely making progress with the fence. As I said before, we have to keep the dogs, goats and the people that live around the school out of the school yard. I have had a trying time with the children of the community that simply make the school yard their playground and in the process destroy everything that we tried to establish to make it look more attractive. I firmly believe that God is using this as a time to work on my character, but I am not sure how well that is going…..

So, Dries spends his time between the boat and the school at the moment, which is challenging and he is working too hard. Furthermore, this seems to be the ‘season of the tyres’. More specifically, the loss of tyres. I stopped counting at four and we had to order some new ones from Antananarivo. Please pray that they will arrive soon.

I am studying for my French exam which will be in November while also getting my lesson preparation for Rangers done for the next three months as I’ll be away for two months after school gets back.

Please pray with us during this time. The mission life often includes a lot of physical work to set the scene for what God will do next. We want to remain faithful in all the ways that God wants to use us.

God bless!
