Sendingnuus Madagaskar: Lynette skryf vir ons oor die week 22 September 2024

Madagaskar NG Kerk Groot-Brakrivier

Joshua Generation School, Lovako School and Royal Rangers are all under way after the school holiday.

Kids and Discovery Rangers meet every Wednesday afternoon.  The Discoveries are a big group this year and they are packed like sardines into the classroom where we meet for prayer and worship before they disperse into their individual patrols.  We are studying the Bible book of Ezra for the next five weeks and for the skills merit, they are learning all about the birds of Madagascar.

Sendingnuus uit Madagaskar: Back to School

Madagaskar NG Kerk Groot-Brakrivier

t was the start of the new school year 2024/2025 this week.  Or as they say here, ‘La Rentrée’.  It consisted of the usual clean-up and organisation of classrooms.  This year, we’ll have the complete pre-school program from 3 – 6 years. We are still short of one classroom as the new one does not seem to get past the foundation phase.  The teachers organized themselves to allow for this and we trust that we’ll be up and running by December.

Sendingnuus: Madagaskar – Konsert 2024

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.”

I Corinthians 15:10

By the grace of God!” This was the theme of the school concert this year.  As each year goes by, we are sure of one thing and that it is God’s grace which pulls us through and helps us to keep going.  The concert was special in that the teachers chose the theme, did all the choreography and even had different coloured T-shirts with I Cor 15:10 printed on them.  Victoria came to help Larisdiana with the practise as she was already eight months pregnant. Victoria also painted the backdrop. Randria opened with a message and it was good to see how much the parents enjoyed it all.

Sendingnuus: Madagaskar – The week 30 June 2024

I finally received that small document which states that I have deposited my file for the renewing of my visa.  I was relieved until I noticed that all the information concerning my passport and previous visa, was completely wrong.  I want to say done on purpose, but let’s be positive.  I have to go back and apply for a new one.

Dries is almost done with the work on the centre box of the boat.  It is slow work, but has already made a big difference.

Sendingnuus uit Madagaskar: Die Week 23 Junie 2024

….or rather The Weeks!  The last few weeks have been busy and that explains the fact that I have not posted any news.  Not for a lack of news though.  The schools closed on Friday and we had our concert in the afternoon. I’ll do a special post about that.

So what have we been doing you might ask.  Dries had a couple of demanding weeks.  He got a lot done on the boat. Amidst that, the Land Rover decided to give trouble and that meant that he spent a week to get the starter fixed, together with some other problems waiting to happen.

Sendingnuus – Madagaskar: Paradise lost

Madagaskar Lynette 5-2-2023

Research was done by three International Mission Board (IMB) journalists and the following article was published. We were also interviewed for this exposé at the time. What prompted us to share this once more what we are experiencing with Mboty and Florette right at this moment. One of the reasons for the high incidence of sexual abuse in the family circle, is the attitude to prostitution and for that fact, child trafficking. It is not a moral issue and money trumps every objection that might remain. Dries felt strongly that people need to be made aware of this situation once again. What we have experienced in twenty-six of ministry is that the Gospel preached in the school milieu and the nurturing of children in all aspects of their lives, is how teenage pregnancy, prostitution and child abuse can be prevented and overcome. People will know how to pray once they know the reality of what happens in Madagascar and for that matter in most other countries in the world.

Sendingnuus – Madagaskar: Vonjy maika!

Save urgently!  The English translation for ‘vonjy maika’, is emergency.  We had an emergency when we visited Lovako School in Ampamata at the end of April.  You might wonder why I haven’t mentioned any of it, but besides being caught up in the aftermath, I prayed that God would provide the deliverance and that I could share it as a testimony to God’s grace.

Sendingnuus – Madagaskar : The Week 12 May 2024

We took a couple of days after the work team had left to get our house in some kind of order. Moving between the boat and home means that we are forever looking for stuff, but we’ll get there.  I am doing the last Royal Ranger preparation for the current school year this week.  It feels as if this school year went by extremely quickly.  Concert practise is in full swing and Larisdiana asked Victoria to help out as she is almost seven months pregnant.  I am blessed by the fact that they don’t need me to concern myself with the planning of the end of year concert anymore.

Sendingnuus: Madagaskar – Gabriel work team

Madagaskar

We said goodbye to the seven guys who gave it their all the past two weeks. We are so grateful for what Jan, Jacques, Ackerman, Joubert, Reuben, Ricus and Joseph had accomplished in such a short time.

The main objective was to remove and fix the smaller box on Gabriel’s stern. It had to be put back in place again and this required some muscle and teamwork.

Sendingnuus: Madagaskar – The Week 21 April 2024

I have once again lost a couple of days along the way…but it has been BUSY! Dries and I finally got everything to the boat to be ready for the team to start work Monday morning. There were some challenges; it has been almost two weeks that we hardly have electricity, at most five hours a day. It is simply too expensive to run a generator full time, but we had to cart the generator all the way back to the house to refrigerate the meat for the team. Organising drinking water was also a major challenge. There are still shortages concerning vegetables and a Plan B is always required.

Sendingnuus: Madagaskar – The week 21 April 2024

We said goodbye to Thesi on Tuesday. It was a time of refreshing for us to be together. She will always have a very special place in all of our hearts.

The rest of this week, we shall have to fire on all cylinders. The work team arrives next Sunday and I have so far two days worth of the menu written down. It will be camp style living and cooking…so if any of you have good ideas for tasty meals for ten people, don’t hesitate to share. 😉

Madagaskar : The Week – 07-04-2024

“For God so loved the world….”

Lovako team

Our time at Lovako School reminded me again of the fact that God gave His Son Jesus so that all people who believe in Him could have eternal life. From the most advanced and developed countries in the world, to the small fishing village of Ampamata where people are mostly illiterate and live in tiny houses made from palm leaves, God does not exclude anyone on the basis of background or position. Christ welcomes you as long as you come to Him in repentance and faith. This was the focus of the morning devotions and Euphrasie brought the children and teachers back to the profound and life giving message of John 3:16.

Sendingnuus: Madagaskar – The Week

Thesi arrived safely and we have had a wonderful week of catching up and spending time together.  The teachers were happy to see her and somehow it felt as if she never left. she will be here for one more week. We had a blessed Ranger meeting on Thursday and the kids were so excited to learn a new song.  Thesi and I worked on the actions for the song earlier in the week and we felt as if we had a proper workout after all the jumping around.

Sendingnuus Madagaskar: The week 17 March 2024

We once again have a working kitchen and bathroom on the boat. Dries connected the boatyard’s water supply directly to the boat. So running water all around! The toilet flushes and is connected to the drain which Dries and Norbert finished this week. We had to buy some new batteries and the solar panels do their job which means lights and cold water in the fridge. It took a lot of scrubbing and manoeuvring in a small space and it feels as if I still smell of bleach. I am beginning to think that living on the boat might be more comfortable than our house. Now we just have to get the rest of Gabriel in the same shape.

Sendingnuus Madagaskar : Update

I clearly lost a couple of weeks!

We have been working hard at the boat and I have to keep up with the Ranger lessons and meetings. As is so often the case, things break when it is least convenient. My quad is waiting for a part which we had to order from Taiwan and the Land Rover has parts coming from Antananarivo. The Landy is still going though, but the quad is out of commission for now. I have to take six different tuc-tucs to get to and from school. I still have trouble walking and doing everything at at a slower speed, is frustrating for me.

Sendingnuus uit Madagaskar- The week 25 February 2024

I asked Dries which of the following scenarios he would choose: a – to be in urgent need of medical care and end up in a very bad hospital b – to be put in prison because of a false accusation

Let me just clarify, both prison and hospital on our island are indistinguishable from one another when it comes to hygiene and care. He struggled to choose between the two and opted for the hospital one where I leaned towards the prison what-if.

Madagaskar Sending nuus: The week 28 January 2024

Madagaskar Sending

Rather late than never they say.

The week has been filled with a variety of tasks as the full focus on the boat during the last couple of weeks, put other things on hold.

Dries and Norbert removed the outboard motors from the boat as well as all the batteries which need to be checked and charged. Dries went to school to see how the roof has been replaced and he was not happy, because much of it was not done straight. It is one of our continous struggle; to get people to deliver good work. Dries could not be there to keep an eye on the roof job, with the result that the one side has basically been botched and looks like giant sharks teeth, zig-zagging along instead of lined up and straight. That doesn’t seem to bother anyone and all the classrooms are up and running. Dries would have to replace the gutter system and do some work on the Land Rover, therefore much of February will be spent on that and Gabriel will have to wait.
