Sendingnuus Madagaskar: Step by Step Page by Page

Dries, Norbert and Antonin started on Vola’s classroom today. It had the least damage and was the logical first step. Norbert and Antonin accomplished a lot yesterday by removing all the corrugated sheets that were folded over as well as the wood that it was attached to. We should be able to re-use most of the sheets, but many of the beams snapped like twigs.

I was the designated book dryer today. We managed to save a lot of stuff yesterday and the process continued today. The sun was out for most of the morning and I took the most damaged books and dried the pages one by one. It will take another day or two, but it works remarkably well. The reasons why we have to save as many of the text books as possible are that these books have become so expensive and hard to come by and the current government has not printed a single new text book in what must be almost ten years. I won’t be exaggerating when I say that we are the only Malagasy school on our island where our students have access to a printed book even if they have to share.

Dries and I feel much better today. Thank you for all the encouraging messages and prayer. We pray that some of the classes could return by the end of next week.
